Sports medicine is a branch of medicine that deals with physical fitness, treatment and prevention of injuries related to sports and exercise.

At Sonoran Naturopathic Center we specialize in treating those that are physically active, no matter what the level of activity. Professional NFL, MLB, NHL players, Olympians, Pro-Golfers, Pro-Tennis Players, Motorcross, and triathletes frequently rely on SNC’s sports related treatments to keep them at the top of their game.

Treatments consist of preventing and healing muscle, ligament, bone, and tendon injuries through the use of Lab Evaluation, Prolotherapy, PRP, Nutrient-based IV Therapy, Nutrition Counseling, Vitamin Supplementation, and Cryotherapy. Our Sports Medicine practice also serves to treat those that have chronic illnesses that can affect physical performance; including Asthma, Rheumatoid arthritis, physical disabilities, and Diabetes.

Provided is a brief explanation of our sports-related treatments. For a more detailed description, click on the respective service link you are interested in learning more about.

Lab Evaluation
Detailed lab analysis to identify nutrient deficiencies, electrolyte imbalances, effects of stress (physical and mental) on the body, imbalanced hormone function, presence of tumor markers, food & chemical allergies/sensitivities, presence of inflammation, and risk for heart disease, diabetes, and liver disease. Special labs are also added on to the standard panel depending on the client’s health issues and needs. Lab assessment allows the physicians at SNC to tailor a supplement, dietary, and lifestyle protocol specific to each client.

Prolotherapy
Prolotherapy works by exactly the same process that the human body naturally uses to stimulate the body’s healing system, a process called inflammation. The technique involves the injection of a proliferant (a mild irritant solution) that causes an inflammatory response which “turns on” the healing process.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy
Natural substances found in the plasma are necessary for healing damaged cells and tissues. Platelet-rich plasma therapy utilizes these substances, via injection, providing areas of injury or disease with a concentrated dose of the body’s own specific platelets, proteins and growth factors.

Nutrient-based IV Therapy
A great diet may often not translate to appropriate levels of all nutrients if factors such as inflammation, poor digestion, food allergies/sensitivities, a weakened immune system, etc., are present. Delivering nutrients intravenously allows for rapid absorption and utilization by bypassing the digestive tract. This translates to improved health, faster tissue healing, and enhanced muscle recovery and function.

Cryotherapy
Whole Body Cryotherapy is a sophisticated method of cold therapy involving 3 minutes of skin exposure to temperatures between -135C to -190C. WBC has been a treatment in existence for over 30 years and has been shown to significantly reduce inflammation and pain. It is a very popular modality of treatment for a number of professional sports team organizations given its ability to enhance soft tissue and muscle repair.
